So you want to homeschool – Job Two!

Have you heard the expression – “there is more than one way to skin a cat”?  If you have not heard this saying, it’s a thing and it’s a thing that goes back to about 1840.  Welcome to homeschooling, where you too get to be a student all over again.

Just like there is more than one way to skin a cat, there is more than one way to homeschool.  There is more than one way teach any subject and more than way to be legal or official.  It is up to YOU!  YOU will be choosing what is best for YOU!

Home education is one of five legal ways to satisfy Florida’s compulsory attendance law.  Statute 1003.01(13) gives parents the choice of achieving regular school attendance through one of five options:

  • Public School
  • Private School
  • Non-traditional private school
  • Home-education program
  • Private tutoring program

Let’s address how we become official homeschoolers, choosing the “Home-education program” listed above.  Here are your options:

Now the good news is that you can change your mind.  Not sure what to do?  The fastest, easiest way is to send a letter of intent and register under the county.  Pressure off!  Now research all of your options and see if that is the best one.
